The Flex Decision Everyone's Overthinking This Week
When two flex options grade out within half a point of each other, the tie-breaker usually isn't in the box score — it's in the game script.
Both flex candidates this week carry near-identical season-long per-game averages, which is why most projection tools have them rated within a fraction of a point of each other.
The difference is game script: one player's team is favored by seven and likely to run more in the second half to close out the game, which caps his upside as a receiver but raises his floor if he's involved in the run game. The other is on a team currently a three-point underdog in a game projected for a high total — more likely to be throwing from behind, which raises spike-week upside at the cost of floor.
Two identical projections can still be two very different bets, depending on what you actually need this week.
If you're playing for a guaranteed floor to survive a close matchup, take the favorite's role player. If you're behind in your own matchup and need a spike week, take the underdog's receiver.
